The colours used may represent the USA without it being brazen. The colours used also contrasts the colour of her hair. This allows the colour of her vibrant red hair to stand out even more. The read and white stripped silk sheet also brings colour to the article as it is very plain and simple. It also draws in the readers focus completely on Florence.
This photograph is mainly aimed at men as her choice of clothing brings a lot of attention to her legs and her breasts. Her legs are exposed as she wears a very short dress, but manages not to look like a loose woman. She has positioned her legs purposely to reveal them more and for the reader too see them better. She is very poised this allows her to achieve the ‘sexy’ look and still look quite reserved. Her dress/costume is very eccentric and makes a statement even though the colour black is very mute. Black shiny cones cover her breasts, this stylish and unconventional way of dress. Indie artists such as Florence and the Machine usually steer away from the norm of mainstream music. As ‘USA got the love’ for her she may have to alter her image to be able to appeal to them. This is style of dress is very popular with many artists such as Lady Gaga [American] who are wearing very provocative and revealing clothing.
Her non verbal communication is shown through her facial expression as she stares flirtatiously towards the camera. She looks directly at the camera, her way of being in touch with the readers and her fans. She sits on the top of the boxed stages; this connotes how she has climbed from the very bottom to the top of the music scene. It is not very easy for British artists to branch out into the American charts but they have managed to achieve this as they now play live shows/concerts in the USA. The colour of her hair is very different and unique. The colour is enhanced and looks very bold. Her hairstyle has now become a trend that many young women now follow. Red hair was a hair colour that was once disliked by various people but now many women have the confidence to embrace this hair colour. This can be clearly seen from the confidence that comes across from this photograph. This is portrayed through her pose; Florence is sat in a bold and authoritive position.
